The quest for quality has seen Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood, produce its most expensive movie Half of a Yellow Sun, which costs about N1.27 billion ($8m) to make. The movie, an adaptation of Chimanmanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ was shot at Tinapa Film Studio, Cross River State, and in the United Kingdom.
The yet to be released film, directed by Biyi Bandele, has most of its cast and crew flown from abroad. The cast comprised Britons and Nigerians such as Chiwetel Ejiofor (Kinky Boots, American Gangster, 2012, Salt); Thandie Newton (Mission: Impossible II, Crash, The Pursuit of Happiness); Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, For Coloured Girls); Joseph Mawle (Women in Love, Game of Thrones); John Boyega (Attack the Block); Onyeka Onwenu, Nigerian singer and actress; Genevieve Nnaji and Zack Orji.

In a bid to make a difference in an industry populated by poorly produced films, Balogun travelled to Bulgaria to master film technology. The end product of the trip was an outstanding film that ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ has rivalled.

Big Brother Africa: Host Ik To Quit BBA Show?

Unconfirmed reports are about that radio and TV show host , Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa, popularly known as IK might be leaving Big Brother Africa (BBA) soon.
Intense negotiations are on between IK and Multichoice and officially, they are yet to reach a mutual agreement. What this means is that, depending on the outcome of the negotiations, Ik may either be retained, or quit as the anchorman of the show which has a new edition in the pipeline, with production and content details being sewn up.
No official admission is out on the true state of things, but a variety of inside sources say ‘it’s more likely he’s leaving’.
IK, the man in the light, turned up a blank when quizzed with a ‘No Comment’ reply.
Spokesperson for Multichoice, Segun Fayose denied the reports saying that there was no element of truth to IK quiting Big Brother. ‘The report is untrue and unsubstantial. Please disregard any report that is not coming directly from us’, Fayose stated.
IK, who’s also a presenter and executive at Rhythm FM in Lagos, started hosting the reality series in September 2009 taking over from former Channel O presenter, Kabelo Ngakane. The BBA show being beamed to millions of viewers across the continent shot IK to continental spotlight.

New Zealand Is The 13th Country In The World To Legalise Same-Sex Marriage

Marriage between same-sex couples has been legalised tonight after Labour MP Louisa Wall's bill passed its final hurdle at Parliament.

MPs voted 77-44 in favour of the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Bill, introduced last year from the private member's ballot.
It makes New Zealand the 13th country in the world – and the first in the Asia-Pacific region – to legalise same-sex marriage.
Ms Wall told Parliament that tonight's vote sends New Zealand down a path of healing.
"It now includes all citizens in our state institution of marriage regardless of their sex, sexual orientation or gender identity," she says.
Hundreds lined up outside Parliament before the debate to get a seat in the public gallery and another room was also packed out with supporters watching on a big screen.
The public gallery erupted into song after Deputy Speaker Lindsay Tisch announced the bill had passed its final hurdle. Pokarekare Ana echoed around the debating chamber and most politicians joined in to celebrate the bill's passing.

Before the vote was made, a number of MPs spoke to bill, including National's Maurice Williamson who made light of all the "hate mail" he has been sent.
"I've had a reverend in my local electorate say the "gay onslaught will start the day this law is passed". Well, we are struggling to know what the gay onslaught is," he said.
"We don't know if it will come down the Pakuranga highway as a series of troops or whether it will be a gas that flows over the electorate that blocks us all in."
Cheers erupted when he said discussions with his gay friend had him "along a line which has got me to change my view in respect to gay things."
Green Party MP Kevin Hague spoke of his own experience of having a gay partner for almost 29 years and his struggle for acceptance and equality.
"Over the years I have campaigned hard for the right of our community not to be outsiders anymore," he said.
"The stigma associated with our inferior status is associated with substantial higher rates of suicide, depression, HIV risk, violence and other risks to our health and well-being."
He finished by taking a swipe at Family First and Catholic Action who have actively campaigned against the bill.
"The world will be a better place now," he said.

Posers over death of 8-yr-old girl in General Hospital

Mr. Frank Ogundana, 50, is presently in deep grief over the loss of his two children within a space of six months. His eight-year-old daughter, Donna, who was  admitted at the General Hospital Ikorodu on Monday April 8, died last Thursday under questionable circumstances morbidly reminiscent of the death of his only son at the same hospital about six months ago through what he described as “doctors’ negligence’’.
Ogundana, an indigene of Ekiti State, wants the Lagos State Government to check “the excesses of doctors at the Ikorodu General Hospital” over allegation that no fewer than 20 couples in his community may have lost their children in similar questionable circumstances at this tertiary health institution.
Donna, a primary four pupil of Lagos State Polytechnic Staff School was diagnosed at birth as being afflicted with  Sickle Cell anemia. But a later test was to confirm that she was AA. Indeed  she was never admitted in any hospital until her predicament of April 8.

According to Ogundana, a lecturer with the Lagos State Polytechnic, Donna had never been admitted or transfused since she was diagnosed to be AA in LUTH about five years ago.
Ogundana, who lives at Maya-Adamo, Ikorodu gave Vanguard Metro, VM, a vivid account of what transpired after his daughter was admitted at the Ikorodu General Hospital. ‘’I have four children, three girls and a son but my only son died at the Ikorodu General Hospital due to doctors’ negligence, that was six months ago.
My daughter had never been sick until 2012 when she complained of general body pains and under medical advice, we placed her on prescribed medication. When we returned from church  on Sunday, she complained of body pains and was given her medicines. But I realised she did not sleep throughout the night and we took her to General Hospital Ikorodu on Monday April 8 and she was placed on admission.
“Some medical tests were carried out on her and her blood count was 29 per cent, while malaria parasite was negative. She was treated for malaria, pains and also given sedatives. But rather than get better, my daughter’s condition got worse as she complained of increasing pains.
On Tuesday, she started crying frequently and her eye balls became yellow. Unfortunately, doctors were not available to attend to her. I walked up to a nurse to complain about the situation but she said the symptoms were normal.
On Wednesday, I could not bear it any longer as my daughter could not sleep for 24 hours; her heart was beating fast but the nurse on duty said they have increased the sedatives which means she would sleep for longer hours but this was not so.
Frantic with worry I went round the hospital to see if a doctor could help out; I eventually came across the doctor who placed her on admission but he asked me to exercise patience.  I left the hospital by 8pm while my wife stayed back so that I could attend to our two kids at home.
“By this time, I thought of transferring my daughter to another hospital but the doctors were not available to issue a report. The nurses said they had severally drawn the doctors’ attention to my daughter’s worsening condition without an appropriate response.
My wife told me that one of them, Dr. Abu, promised to show up but he never did. By11pm, I drove to the hospital. As soon as I approached the gate, I heard my daughter screaming. I parked the car and started running to the children ward. There were two doctors on duty, a male and a female, but the duo refused to show up in the ward.
In annoyance, I followed the nurses to the doctors’ office and to my greatest surprise, one of them, a female, was sound asleep. After waiting for a while, I forced the door open; my action created a scene which forced the male doctor out of his office. But rather than addressing my problem, he accused me of peeping into a female doctor’s office which aggravated my annoyance and I dragged the female doctor to the ward.
“On noticing my daughter’s predicament and without carrying out any medical examination, she administered sedatives and told me not to worry; that was at midnight.
“My daughter woke up around 6am of Thursday April 11 and she was very weak. By that time, her blood level had reduced drastically to eight per cent and my lovely daughter died in my arms. I am heart-broken; doctors in Ikorodu General Hospital have thrown me into mourning ,’’ he narrated at length.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer to the hospital Mr. Yekini, referred VM to the Medical Director who was not available for interview.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said in a text message that: “I am not aware of this case but will find out”.

Woman loses all her legs and hands after using fake and illegal bumbum enhancement

The woman was left a multiple amputee after the cosmetic surgery went horribly wrong.

April Brown suffered life-threatening infections after having silicone implants injected into her behind. The procedure was performed by an unlicensed doctor in Los Angeles, she said, with the complications leading to several stints as a hospital inpatient.

It was during these hospitalizations where suffered agonizing infections. “I had the procedure done eight years ago," she told the news media. "For five years I lived in pain. Excruciating pain.” +The mother of two children said the illegal procedure took place at a "pumping party" by clandestine doctors.

"They call it medical grade silicone," she said, "but much of it is industrial grade silicone.” Last year, Brown's health deteriorated to the point that she had no choice but to have all of her limbs removed.

Pusha T, a rapper signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D music record label, recently opened up about rumors concerning his boss and collaborator's involvement in an alleged secret society called the Illuminati.

The rapper said he was upset that people in his mother's church were the ones influencing her thoughts on the matter.

eucharia accusses boy of rape after the boy refused to have sex with her.

As you read this, 45-year-old Mrs Eucharia Onuorah has been arrested and charged to court for making a false claim that a young guy, Daniel Chile, raped her in her matrimonial in Lagos.

The relationship between Eucharia and Chile, her neighbour, was cordial before it went sour because the young guy refused to sleep with her, in spite of her persistence...

According to PM news, she was charged before an Isolo Magistrate’s court, Lagos, with false accusation after her failed attempt to lure Chile into sex was exposed.

On the day the allegation was made, Chile got to the compound at about 2.00pm and Eucharia who was at home suddenly pounced on him, shouted and raised an alarm which attracted other neighbours who came out to know what was happening.

She alleged that she was raped by Chile in her apartment and brought out torn underwears and clothes as "evidence" of her allegation. People were surprised.

The young man, Chile, was shocked and speechless, he did not even know how to defend himself. He managed to tell those around that he didn’t do such and disclosed that the woman had been pestering him for sex but he refused since she is a married woman.

The matter was reported at Zone D Police Division at Mushin where the parties were invited and interrogated. During interrogation, a source said Eucharia finally confessed that she was not actually raped by Chile. She however failed to state the reason why she lied against him. 

Consequently, she was charged to court for false allegation under the Criminal Code. The presiding Magistrate, Osho Adebiyi, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. 

The matter was adjourned till 24 April, 2013. Eucharia, a mother of five children, was remanded in prison custody pending when she will fulfil her bail condition.

John Kiriamiti, a Kenyan author’s whose book is been adapted for a film where Jim Iyke would be playing the lead role has advised the actor to ‘stop talking like an American’ and ‘learn how to talk like me to be able to play the role well.”

Adding further, John said, ‘Whoever has read the book has told me they read it thrice or four times and as you know in the book I wasn’t acting I was doing it for real. I hope that translates also in the movie.’

The movie, is an adaptation of three novels written by John Kiriamiti based on ‘his life as a real gangster’, according to sources.

Ado – Odo Monarch Beaten and Stripped After Angry Mob Burnt his Palace

here was pandemonium yesterday in Ado-Odo area of Ogun State as the palace of a monarch, the Olofin of Ado-Odo, Oba Lateef Adeniran Akanni, was razed by some aggrieved youths.
The monarch, Nigerian Compass learnt, had been having a running battle with some interest groups in the community, who allegedly did not want him despite a Supreme Court judgement validating his appointment three years ago.
According to sources, Oba Akanni was hospitalised following the severe beating he received from the rampaging youths.
The burnt palace has also been deserted as wives, children, family members and servants fled the area apparently for fear of being attacked again.
Trouble was said to have started for the traditional ruler when his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was flagged down by some people in the community.
In the process of attending to the people, the unsuspecting monarch was dragged out of his vehicle, beaten and stripped.
Though the incident may not be unconnected with the chieftaincy crisis in the town, another source attributed it to an alleged accident involving the monarch a few days ago.
Oba Akanni, according to the source, allegedly failed to visit a victim of the accident, a development which reportedly infuriated some community youths who plotted the attack.
The violence prompted the state Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, and the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, to visit the area and douse tension.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said normalcy had been restored to the community.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), however, said he was unaware of the alleged stripping of the monarch.
“I know some people went to the palace and attacked the Oba of Ado-Odo but normalcy has been restored to the town. The Commissioner of Police has been there and we are going to ensure that the needful is done to bring all those involved in the act to book,” he added.
Also yesterday, the Ogun State government appealed to the people of Ado-Odo community to shun violence and maintain peace in order to promote socio-economic development of the state.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, the government described the attack on the monarch as “sheer lawlessness.”
Oladipo said there were ways the people could adopt to show their displeasure over the installation of the monarch that was reinstalled by the Supreme Court of the land rather than resorting to burning of houses, beating people and harassing the monarch.
While assuring the people of the state government’s readiness to find a lasting solution to the chieftaincy crisis, the commissioner said a panel of inquiry would be set up to look into the remote and immediate causes of the attack.

Relationships are good. The various Holy books recommend marriage, and most men want to settle down with someone good. However, if you are a woman and unable to find a man who consistently enjoys your company, then there’s a problem. I’ve tried to categorize some character traits commonly found in women which tend to keep the prospective men at bay. Being judgemental and generalizing: A few bad experiences don’t mean all men are the same. It shocks me to hear women say all men are the same. Making such an assertion is not only wrong, it affects your judgement of men and consequently affects how you relate to them. A woman who generalizes is usually quick to read the wrong meanings into men’s actions, and usually reacts irrationally before even considering their actions. No man will stick around too long if he’s always feeling attacked and misunderstood.

Easy catch: I can bet that a man will avoid you if he knows you’ve slept with every available man on your street or a sizeable number of men in your school. No man wants to settle for the chaff when the substance has been lost. However, if he isn’t aware, you may wish to keep the details to yourself and not flaunt it. It makes a man insecure to know that he is dating an ‘easy catch’ and might send him on his merry way sooner than either of you thought.

Facebook Loses A Million South African Users

Social networking site Facebook has seen its South African user-base drop by nearly one million in the past six months, according to a report on Monday.
                         
Statistics from social media monitoring company SocialBakers showed that 967 220 users have not logged on to the site in the past six months, reported The Star.
This was a decline of 17.7%.
The numbers also indicated that people aged between 18 and 24-years-old were the biggest group of Facebook users.
Meanwhile, another study conducted by World Wide Worx and Fusewire found that an increasing number of people over 60-years-old have taken a liking to the site.

Thoba Sithole, a Zulu from KwaDukuza, and Tshepo Modisane, a Tswana from Johannesburg, tied the knot on Saturday in KwaDukuza with about 200 people, including family, friends, onlookers and the media in attendance. Sithole and Modisane, both 27, defended their wedding and said there was nothing evil or nontraditional about it.

The couple said the support they had received from their families made it easier for them to tie the knot. “My family has always been there for me and had always been there for me even in my previous homosexual relationships,” said Modisane. Sithole said his mother had always told him how she was looking forward to seeing him getting married to his partner.

The gay couple who tied the knot in a traditional Zulu and Tswana wedding while dressed in traditional attire say they will not be fazed by the criticism being aimed at them by social network users and Zulu culture experts.They started dating in 2011 after they had been friends for some time.

Modisane said he was attracted to Sithole because he was a well-grounded man who loved God and was someone who could bring stability in his life. Sithole said their next step after the wedding was buying a home and starting their own family. “We are fully committed to each other and we believe children form an important foundation in bringing stability in one’s life,” he said. “We will be adopting two kids – a boy and a girl to be part of our family.”

8 Reasons You Are Single

Our reader, who wished to stay anonymous, wants to share her thoughts on reasons for staying single with the rest of you. Do you agree with her train of thought? Have a say!
1. You hate people.
You are often overwhelmed with poignant little moments — usually while doing more banal, everyday things, such as waiting in the grocery store checkout line — where you remember just how much every other person around you makes you kind of want to kill yourself a little bit. There is a certain comfort in knowing that youэre single, because it means, more than ever before, that you have no attachments to consider when it comes to barring yourself in your apartment with your laptop and food - also known as the only activity which reliably makes you feel positive about life in general.
2. People hate you.
At some point during your festering hatred of all of humanity, people started realizing that you didn't like them, and began disliking you in return. Perhaps it is your constant state of displeased face and the "I Hate People" hoodie which make it all the more clear just how much you don't need anyone's approval, or perhaps it is a pheromone which radiates off of you and seems to say "I can't think of a single animal I like less than my coworkers." Whatever it is, the point is clear. And while it can be satisfying to feel a hatred so clearly reciprocated in kind, it's a tough cycle to break.
3. Your life is a friend zone.
Whether you're one of the Nice Guys who take pictures of themselves wearing a fedora and complaining about how shallow women are with no irony, or you're a walking R'n'B song who thinks every girl who manages to get a boyfriend when you don't is an evil being, you are just not making it to the "romance" stage. For some reason, everyone you want to date is leaving you out to dry in that awkward middle ground between "we don't really talk to each other" and "we see each other naked on a regular basis." It's all the agony of having to hear about your beloved's romantic tribulations without getting to touch some flesh afterwards, and it has become your life's calling.
4. Caring about people is a lot of work.
I mean, in theory, you could be calling someone every day to find out what they want to do for dinner this evening and having a mundane back-and-forth about restaurant vs. cooking vs. ordering in, which includes having to compromise on your personal tastes and preferences because you must take their opinion into consideration. You could be making decisions based on consensus, and learning to think about people other than yourself. You could be operating as one-half of a fine-tuned unit who has gotten the whole "being respectful of someone else's beliefs and feelings" thing down to a science. Or, you could be drinking a bottle of wine for one and then going on a whim with a friend to see a movie. The choice is clear, I believe.
5. You have other stuff to do.
I don't know, man, maybe it's just time that you focused on your career for a while. You've got stuff to do, coworkers to backstab, and metaphorical ladders to climb. It's time for you to just wipe that romantic slate clean and focus on the stuff that really matters, such as making a fuckton of money and building a portfolio that would make an HR rep weep with joy.
6. You got dumped.
Someone was basically like "Hey, person who loves me deeply — gonna have to ruin your life right quick so I can get to all this 'seeing other people' I've been meaning to do. Hope we can still have sex occasionally which gives you a vague-yet-unsustainable hope for our non-existent future! Peace!" And now you're single, despite having no choice in the matter.
7. No one is worth it.
Sure, you could be going through your dating sites messages like a Roman emperor picking out which of his beloved slaves is going to go fight a lion this afternoon, but you're not. It's just that you are not trying to settle, and going out on a date with someone you're not actually into — aside from the potential of getting a free meal, which is always tempting, because food — is more depressing than doing nothing at all. It's not for lack of opportunity that you are going on a self-imposed dry spell, it's for lack of motivation to shack up with a flesh-eating bacteria of a significant other just to pass the time.
8. You're actually happier alone.
Despite the world constantly barraging you with messages along the lines of "Better find someone who's willing to have sex with you and then proceed to admit it publicly before you die alone and worthless!! :)" you are perfectly happy being at a place in your life with no partner. You have no desire to get into a relationship for a variety of reasons, the most salient of which being "it just doesn't interest you." And whether you're the kind of person who doesn't ever envision long-term love, or just doesn't want it at this stage of the game, no amount of women's interest magazine cajoling and Tiffany's advertisements is going to sway you. Ride on, you golden unicorn, and don't let anyone dissuade you from getting a pet.
